How to Calculate Ovulation Date.

Rosemary Njeri

Understanding how your body works is important.Calculating ovulation is important if;

  • You are planning on getting pregnant.
  • If you want to keep a check on your ovulation symptoms such as spotting, slight cramping etc.
  • If you want to avoid pregnancy although this is not the best method, taking contraceptives is better.

Formula to calculate ovulation.

Normally, menstrual cycle is 28 days . To calculate ovulation, we subtract 14 days or two weeks from the first day of your next menstrual cycle.

Example:

If your next period is to happen on the thirty-first day of the month, we can calculate your ovulation dates.

We’ll begin by subtracting 14 days from the 31st.

= 31 – 14

= 17

Therefore, your ovulation dates will be on the 17th of that month.

Since the human body is affected by numerous factors, it is not easy to talk about the exact date of ovulation, thats why we give an allowance of about two days before your calculated ovulation date.

Therefore, for our case, the ovulation dates will be the 15th, 16th and the calculated 17th day of that month.
