In this article, we are going to discuss how to convert kilowatts to megawatts but before that, lets define them. Both kilowatts (kW) and MW are units of power. While a kilowatt represents 1000 watts, megawatts represent 1,000,000 watts.
Formula to Convert Kilowatts to Megawatts.
To convert kW to MW, we need to know how they are related first. Their relationship is that;
1 megawatt is equivalent to 1000 kilowatts.
Therefore, to convert kW to MW, we divide the kW value by 1,000.
Power in MW = Power in kW ÷ 1000
Example 1:
Convert 50,000 kW to megawatts.
= 50,000 ÷ 1000
= 50 megawatts.
Example 2:
Convert 3 kilowatts to MW.
= 3 ÷ 1000
= 0.003 MW
Example 3:
The largest portable generator can only power 12 kW, convert that power to megawatts.
= 12 ÷ 1000
= 0.012 MW
Example 4:
Convert 1000kW to MW.
= 1000 ÷ 1000
= 1 MW
