How to Convert Watts to Megawatts.

Rosemary Njeri

Watt is a measure of power. One watt (W) is the rate at which work is done when one ampere (A) of current flows through an electrical potential difference of one volt (V).

While a megawatt is also a unit of power equal to one million watts.

Formula to convert W to MW.

Since we have been told that a megawatt is equivalent to one million watts.

Therefore to convert W to MW, we divide the W value by 1,000,000.

Power in MW = Power in W ÷ 1,000,000

Example:

Convert 500 million watts to megawatt.

= 500,000,000 ÷ 1,000,000

= 500 Megawatts.
