How to Calculate Protein Needs.

Protein is a nutrient needed by the human body for growth and maintenance.

Your optimal daily protein intake depends on your weight, goal, and level of physical activity.

Formula to calculate protein needs.

Although there are other many formulas, we will use the one below.

The activity level is as follows;

  • Sedentary – 0.5
  • Light activity – 0.6
  • Moderate – 0.7
  • Active – 0.8
  • Very active – 0.9
  • Athlete – 1.0

Example:

Suppose you have a lean body mass of 100 and you spent your day doing light activity, calculate your protein needs for the day.

The activity level value for light activity is 0.6.

Calculate Protein Needs.

Therefore, your protein needs is 60 grams.
