How to Calculate Tension.

Rosemary Njeri

Tension is a kind of a force.

It can be described as the action-reaction pair of forces acting at each end of a rope, chain or a string. Tension could be the opposite of compression.

The SI unit of tension is Newton (N).

Formula to calculate tension.

The tension on a body is calculated by finding the difference between the product of mass (m) with gravity (g) and product of mass (m) with acceleration (a).

How to Calculate Tension.

Example:

For his morning work out, a man climbs up a vertically suspended rope at 2m/s² . Calculate the tension in the rope if the man is 65Kg. ( Gravity = 9.8 m/s² ).

How to Calculate Tension.

Therefore, the tension in the string is 507 N.
