How to Convert Watts to Gigawatts.

While watts is the SI unit of power equivalent to 1 joule per second, a gigawatt is also a unit of power that is equivalent to one billion watts.

While the abbreviation for watts is W, the abbreviation for gigawatts is GW.

Formula to convert W to GW.

To convert W to GW, need to know their relationship first.

We can see that from the definition of GW, one GW is equivalent to 0ne billion watts.

Therefore, to convert W to GW, we divide the W value by 1,000,000,000.

GW = W ÷ 1,000,000,000

Example:

Convert 60,000,000 watts to gigawatts.

= 600,000,000 ÷ 1,000,000,000

= 0.6 gigawatts.
