How to Convert Megawatts to Watts.

Rosemary Njeri

Before we learn how to convert megawatts to watts, lets define them. Watt is a measure of power. One watt (W) is the rate at which work is done when one ampere (A) of current flows through an electrical potential difference of one volt (V). While a megawatt is also a unit of power equal to one million watts.

Formula to convert Megawatts to Watts.

Since we have been told that a megawatt is equivalent to one million watts.

Therefore to convert MW to W, we multiply the MW value by 1,000,000.

Power in W = Power in MW x 1,000,000

Example 1:

Convert 2 mW to watts.

1mW = 1,000,000W

= 2 x 1,000,000

= 2,000,000 Watts.

Example 2:

Convert 0.002 mW to watts.

= 0.002 x 1,000,000

= 2,000 Watts.

Example 3:

Convert 1000 mW to w.

= 1000 x 1,000,000

= 1,000,000,000 Watts.

Example 4:

Suppose you are asked to convert 20mW to W.

= 20 x 1,000,000

= 20,000,000 Watts.
