Watt(W) is the SI unit of power equivalent to one joule per second.
While Root mean square (RMS watts) refers to continuous power handling of a speaker or a sub woofer or how much continuous power an amplifier can output.
Formula to convert RMS to W.
To convert RMS to W, you need to know the conversion ratio.
We say that 1 watt is equivalent to 0.707 RMS.
Therefore, to convert RMS watts to W, we divide the Root Mean Square value by 0.707.
Watts = RMS Watts ÷ 0.707
Example:
Convert 3.535 RMS watts to Watts.
= 3.535 ÷ 0.707
= 5 Watts.
