What is a quart?
Prior to discussing how to convert quarts to cups, let’s define what they are, A quart(qt) is a unit of capacity both in the British Imperial and U.S. Customary systems of measurements and it is equal to a quarter gallon.
Three types of quarts that are currently used are the liquid quart and dry quart of the US customary system and the imperial quart of the British imperial system.
The most common usage of quarts is for liquid measurements.
What is a cup?
A cup is a unit of volume in the British Imperial and United States Customary systems of measurement. The UK cups are equivalent to 250ml while the US cups are equivalent to 240ml.
Formula to Convert US qt to US c.
To convert a US qt to a US c, multiply the volume by the conversion ratio.
We know that 1 US liquid quart is equal to 4 US cups.
Example 1:
Suppose you are asked to convert 32 US liquid quarts to US cups.
= 32 x 4
= 128 US cups.
Formula to Convert UK Quarts to UK Cups.
We also know that 1 UK liquid quart is equivalent to 4 UK cups.
Therefore, to convert a UK quart to UK cups, we multiply the quarts value by 4.
Example 2:
Convert 5 UK qt to UK c.
= 5 x 4
= 20 UK cups.
Formula to convert UK qt to US c.
The relationship between a UK qt and a US c is that 1 UK quart is equivalent to 4.804 US cups.
Hence, to convert UK qt to US c, we multiply the qt value by 4.804.
Example 3:
Convert 25 UK quarts to US cups.
= 25 x 4.804
= 120.1 US cups.
Formula to convert US qt to UK c.
To convert we US qt to UK c, we need to know that 1 US qt is equal to 3.33 UK cups.
Therefore, to convert US qt to UK c we multiply the quarts value by 3.33.
Example 4:
Convert 10 US quarts to UK cups.
= 10 x 3.33
= 33.3 UK cups.
In conclusion we can say that, to convert any type of qt to c, whether US or UK, we multiply the qt value by 4.
