How to Convert Km/h to M/s.

Rosemary Njeri

The unit of speed that is expressed in terms of kilometers and hours is written as km/h while m/s is the unit of speed which is expressed in terms of meters and seconds.

Converting km/h to m/s means that we are converting the units of a given speed from kilometer per hour to meter per second. This means that, you have to convert the kilometers to meters and then convert the hours to seconds.

Formula to Convert Km/h to M/s.

The formula to convert kilometers per hour to meters per second is pretty simple. To convert km/h to m/s we convert the kilometers to meters and then the hours to seconds.

We convert km to m by multiplying the kilometers by 1000 and to convert the hours to second we multiply the hours by 3600.

Km/h to m/s

= Km/h x 1000/3600

On simplifying 1000/3600 further, we get 5/18, which is used as the conversion factor.

= Km/h x 5/18

In conclusion, to convert kilometers per hour to meters per second, we multiply the speed in km/h by 5/18.

Speed in m/s = Speed in km/h x 5/18

Example 1:

Convert 20km/h to m/s.

= 20 x 5/8

= 5.56m/s.

Example 2:

The top speed of Ducati Monster is 225 km/h. Convert this speed to meters per second.

= 225 x 5/8

= 140.625 m/s

Example 3:

If the Porsche 911 Turbo S has a closed-track top speed of 327km/h, while the Lamborghini Huracan will take you to 310km/h. What is the difference in speed of these cars in m/s.

We can either begin by converting both speeds to m/s or begin by finding their difference. In this case, we’ll begin by finding their difference then convert the speed to m/s.

= 327 – 310

= 17 km/h

Converting km/h to m/s.

= 17 x 5/8

= 10.625 m/s
