A ratio is a comparison of two or more numbers that indicates their sizes in relation to each other. Most of the time we use the punctuation sign colon(:) to separate the values.

While a fraction represents part of the whole thing.

**Formula to convert a fraction to a ratio.**

- Write the numerator of the fraction as the first term of the ratio.
- Then the denominator as the second term of the ratio, after the colon.
- And lastly simplify the ratio.

**Example:**

Convert 2/6 into a ratio.

The numerator becomes the 1st term.

**= 2 :**

Then the denominator becomes the second term.

**= 2 : 6**

When we simplify we get,

**= 1 : 3**
