How to Convert Fraction to Ratio.

Rosemary Njeri

A ratio is a comparison of two or more numbers that indicates their sizes in relation to each other. Most of the time we use the punctuation sign colon(:) to separate the values.

While a fraction represents part of the whole thing.

Formula to convert a fraction to a ratio.

  • Write the numerator of the fraction as the first term of the ratio.
  • Then the denominator as the second term of the ratio, after the colon.
  • And lastly simplify the ratio.

Example:

Convert 2/6 into a ratio.

The numerator becomes the 1st term.

= 2 :

Then the denominator becomes the second term.

= 2 : 6

When we simplify we get,

= 1 : 3
