A calorie is a measure of energy expenditure and stored energy.

To figure out exactly how many you burn each day, or your total energy expenditure, you need to know;

  • Your basal metabolic rate,
  • The thermic effect of food you eat.
  • And your general activity level.

Formula to calculate calories burned.

Calculate Calories Burned.

MET stands for metabolic equivalent and it is defined as the energy you use when you’re resting or sitting still.

For example the least vigorous physical activity requires a mere 1.0 to 1.5 METs and is called sedentary activity.

Example:

Suppose you were sitting for an hour and you weigh 68Kg. Calculate the calories you burned.

 Calculate Calories Burned.

Therefore, you burnt 71.4 kcal.
