RMS stands for root square mean.

Root Mean Square, or quadratic mean, is a statistical function for finding the average of a series even if it contains negative numbers.

Formula to calculate RMS.

  • Begin by squaring the number and add them together.
  • Then divide the sum of the squares by the number of observations(n).
  • And find the square root of the result.
How to Calculate RMS.

Example:

Find the RMS of the student’s age as stated below.

12 years, 13 years, 12 years and 14 years.

n = 4

How to Calculate RMS.

Therefore, your RMS is 12.78.
