Calculating a cat’s age in human years helps veterinarians determine which of the six life stages a cat is in.

It should be remembered that a cat who lives outdoors ages far more quickly, perhaps even twice as fast, than an indoor cat.

**Formula to convert cat years to human years**.

It is said that first two years of a cat are equal to 24 human years. Then after that, every one cat year is equal to 4 human years.

Cat Years | Human Years |

2 | 24 |

3 | 28 |

4 | 32 |

5 | 36 |

6 | 42 |

**Example:**

Calculate the age of a 4 year old cat in human years.

Since we know that the first two years of a cat are equal to 24 human years, and after that we add 4 human years for every one cat year, therefore;

**24 + 4 + 4 = 32**

Thus , the cat is 32 years old in human years.
